The
standard was launched in November 2002 and specifies the minimum
requirements for the selection of input materials, process
of composting and the quality of composted materials, as well
as for the marking and information labelling of the product.
The standard was produced by British Standards agency and
will improve the confidence in composted materials amongst
end
users. The
Composting Association has adopted PAS 100 as the
specification that composted materials must meet in order
to achieve the composting association verification.
The standard was produced following extensive consultations
across the compost industry. And is specific to biodegradable
items. To comply with the standard operation procedures must
be met for sanitization and stabilisation. A quality policy
must be adhered to and compost quality requirements met. Independent
laboratories ensuring the credibility of results test the
standard.
